Substitute Teacher

Many schools in New Jersey have empty or unattended classrooms because of teacher absences and shortages. This means there is an extraordinary demand for quality substitute teachers in the State of NJ. That allows you, the substitute teacher, the opportunity for regular or part-time work the classroom. As a substitute teacher you are an important staff member in the school district(s) in which you work. When teachers are out, you must be ready to replace them. Often you may be given very short notice. This demands that you be flexible, knowledgeable, and able to establish rapport with students immediately.

The job of a substitute teacher is a challenging one. It requires dedicated and conscientious effort and is far more than that of "baby-sitter." In order to succeed as a substitute teacher you must excel in rendering professional services.

What is a substitute teacher?


A substitute teacher is a person who educates the class when the regular teacher is unavailable. In the absence of the regular classroom teacher, substitute teachers assume responsibility for implementing the day’s lesson and providing the school with the opportunity to continue their quality educational program. The duties of a substitute teacher may include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Arrive at the District at the times designated and in the proper attire.
  • Abide by all policies put forth by Source4Teachers in the offer letter, employee manual and training/orientation session.
  • Abide by all applicable District policies.
  • Follow the lesson plan left by the teacher in accordance with the districts’ philosophy, goals and objectives.
  • Establish and maintain order in the classroom.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, material, equipment and facilities.
  • Cooperate with school personnel.
  • Provide all reports and documentations as required by the District.
  • Sign the Source4Teachers sign in sheets upon arriving and leaving District.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Requirements

  • Current Substitute Teacher or Teaching Certification issued by the State of New Jersey.
    *If you are interested in obtaining your substitute certification and have 60 college credits or more, Source4Teachers is capable of assisting you with this process!
  • NJ Criminal History Background Check
  • Tuberculosis Test (taken within 6 months of initial employment)
  • Successful completion of Source4Teachers Orientation/Training Class
